The Luck of the Irish Delivered!

Dear Good Lunchers,

The month of March is already bringing more rain to the Bay and we couldn’t be happier. It’s wet and gray, almost foggy again — this alone is worth celebrating. Perfect timing, too, because if we really want to celebrate, the other great thing about March is that it also brings us St. Patrick’s Day, which may very well be the biggest festivity in the city after New Year’s. C’mon, who doesn’t like to get a little green on and celebrate with the Irish?
Maybe some St. Paddy’s Day luck will bring us even more rain!

Either way, we’ve got just the lunch to get you and your crew in the mood. We’re teaming up with the always delicious Delessio Market & Bakery, who’ve put together a truly authentic family style Irish menu to bring out the sociable spirit in us all. Slow simmered corned beef with horseradish crème, shepherd’s pie, English peas and
mashed potatoes. And, of course, plenty of braised cabbage. Delessio is doing it with carrots and fresh dill. They’re also cooking up a ton of Irish potatoes with sea salt and butter, Irish soda bread, and rounding it all out with warm applehandpies in the end. How does that sound?

No doubt, the city will be grinning and giggling in green scarves and buckled top hats beginning this Saturday the 12th with the official parade, and the opening of the city’s St. Paddy’s Day Pub Crawl. But, it’s one thing to dress the part, and another to eat the part. If you want to treat your team to another inspired tradition of the Irish, login to order or send us an email or call or text us at 415-294-1186 and we will bring you the hearty rustic foods of the leprechauns. And lots of luck too!

Happy Lunching!

Just What the Doctor Ordered!

Dear Good Lunchers,

This week we’re proud to announce we’ve teamed up with one of the coolest new restaurants in North Beach. In fact, Doc Ricketts is carrying forth the tradition of a deeply restored classic San Francisco spot that goes back to the city’s Barbary Coast days. The original owner back then-marine biologist Ed Ricketts-was friends with John Steinbeck and even inspired several characters in his novels. Before this space became the more recently known Purple Onion (the former club which helped launch many comedic careers, including Robin Williams and Zach Galifianakis), it was originally an underground bohemian salon space run by Ricketts who hosted all sorts of gatherings for artists, thinkers, and entertainers. Today, it’s gotten the perfect modern treatment dishing up simple, but refined Northern California cuisine for both lunch and dinner, while preserving this notorious space. The owners are aiming to make this “the best food and drink offerings of any live performance venue in town.”

As we’ve recently announced, part of our new service is being able to help you secure and organize venues for off-site events. This is a truly original spot in the city, with a smart and sophisticated makeover, and one to keep in mind the next time you’re looking to treat your crew to a special event.

On the other hand, if you’re just looking for a really tasty lunch menu that is upscale but not overly gourmet, then Doc Ricketts is a perfect option for an elevated lunch delivery. The restaurant takes a modern California approach to the French brasserie, serving up classic fried chicken and pulled pork sandwiches with some new fine touches, a burgermade with short ribs(!), and sophisticated twists on hearty seaside salads
and earthy soups. However, one of their claim-to-fames is their charcuterie, a delicate sampler of cold cuts made especially in-house for those who love the divine salty bites of cured meats.

Just login to our website and browse their menu, there are some awesome choices here. As always you can call, text or email us and let us know what you need.

Keep Serpentine Up Your Sleeve!

Dear Good Lunchers,

Imagine for a moment it’s late Wednesday morning, peak week and things are piling up quickly. Suddenly, you’re told some serious big wigs are popping into the office for a very important impromptu meeting. They won’t have time to go out for lunch. You’re told to order something and have it delivered, something for a diverse crew of dietary needs, and that it’s got to impress. In times like these you know you’re going to have to come up with something special. A normal lunch simply won’t do. While it doesn’t have to be super fancy, it should elevate over the typical fare.

From here on, add Serpentine to your bag of tricks. This restaurant is owned by the same gang that operated the once uber popular Slow Club back in the day. The good news is, it’s roughly the same format: an industrial chic inspired space with modern cuisine and hipster cocktails. The great news is that Serpentine may not only be better, but is better set up for orders to go, for brunch,
lunch, and dinner. The best news is that we’re psyched to have partnered with them. Lucky for you!

The lunch menu is all you’d hope for from a Frisco restaurant: locally sourced food
, new American with unique takes on modern classics, equal parts creative vegetarian and high-end meat. Just login to Good Lunch and take a look at their menu. We haven’t tried everything, but the fired orange chicken sando with creamy cashew and cabbage slaw sounds really good. And there’s been some buzz about their veggie burger which uses a chickpea and mushroom patty with arugula and chipotle oil to bring big flavor where too often most veggie burgers fall flat. Of course, no lunch menu would be complete without some kale, and their quinoa salad with tangerine and roasted cauliflower will certainly promise to satiate the most hopeful vegan at the table.

Save this one for your elite clients, but don’t forget either. Serpentine is the special trick up your sleeve, and we are just the ones to perform it for you.

Just login to our website and browse their menu, there are some awesome choices here. As always you can call, text or email us and let us know what you need.

Tamales Are Forever!

Hola Good Lunchers!

Who doesn’t like steamy hot masa wrapped in corn husk stuffed with, well, just about anything? That’s the epic beauty of a classic tamale. You can put anything inside one, and the right tamale can be perfect any time of day. If you haven’t bumped into the Tamales Los Mayas food cart then you’ve been missing out on both one of the best tamales to be had in town hands down, and a great story to come out of our city to boot. In a city saturated by tech startups and billion dollar global icons, it’s super refreshing to be reminded that awesome success can be made here at the pedestrian scale, too. Alicia’s story is edible proof, and we’re absolutely psyched to offer you her delicious, deeply sentimental tamales for your next lunch.

Alicia Villanueva came to California close to fifteen years ago from Mazatlan where she grew up making tamales with her mother and grandmother. Tamales actually predate ancient Maya. Their portability revolutionized not only the way food was prepared for armies and populations, but pioneered an entire culture of Mesoamerican cuisine that continues to inspire chefs today. So what better place to find a tamale revolution than San Francisco? After quietly selling hers door-to-door for years to make ends meet here, in 2010 Alicia landed a coveted space at La Cocina, an innovative business incubator that assists low income women of color and immigrant communities. Ever since, her tamales have taken off and changed her life, and altered the Bay Area tamale scene in a big way.

As she likes to say, “my tamales are stuffed with love, and the best people are stuffed with my tamales.” Today, while running a hugely successful food cart
throughout the week, she has turned her handcrafted tamales into a full on thriving catering business that has found her special scented leaf wrapped meals in offices like G.E., and parties like the Treasure Island Music Fest all over the Bay. Soon, her tamales will be sold at all Whole Foods, and have already been shipped as far away as Europeand Australia. The world is catching on.

Check out her menu. We highly recommend the chicken and mole tamales, and with lots of avocado salsa! But, you can’t go wrong with any of them really, not even here baby tamalito pops. They’re adorable! So, the next time your crew is hankering for a true taste of authentic latin food made with the deepest sense of tradition, load them up with Alicia’s tamales. She’s going global and when you taste them you’ll know why!

The Godfather of the Italian Sandwich

Good Day Good Lunchers,

San Francisco is known for many great sandwiches combining tastes from all over the world. But, if one stands out, not only as an all-time great but representing the city better than any, it has got to be the ‘Renzo Special‘ from the old-school Italian deli in North Beach, known to all, simply as, Molinari. We are very pleased to be able to add this hall-of-fame deli to our growing list of great, diverse, and historic restaurants for you to choose from.

Founded in 1896, Molinari has remained one of the city’s oldest food markets and an absolute local institution, carrying on the great artisanal heritage of Italian style sausage making better than anyone else this side of the nation. Italians in Italy brag about it, while tourists from all over write home about it. Four generations old now, this family owned deli and salami purveyor survived the fires from the 1906 earthquake, and has racked up fame with visits from the likes of Lauren Bacall, Humphrey Bogart, and Alfred Hitchcock. Back in the day, Molinari was so special to Joe DiMaggio-the baseball legend-he apparently had the deli cater his own funeral reception!

Molinari is just about the furthest thing from the standard knock-off Italian Deli. This is the O.G. of the Italian deli, and what it serves is the Godfather of the Italian sandwich.

The Renzo is a finely sliced layer of prosciutto that blends into elegant slices of marbled coppa, laced with just the right amount of smoke, spice, and chewy texture. And it all lays on a bed of soft “hot” or “mild” mozzarella with sweet sun-dried tomatoes running through it. It’s as traditional as it gets!

Of course, the Renzo isn’t the only option. There are 36 different types of sandwiches to choose from. Just shoot us an email or text us your order at 415-294-1186, and we will take care of the rest. You can also login to Good Lunch today and order that way if you prefer.

Uno Dos Tacos!

Dear Good Lunchers,

Introducing our newest restaurant addition – Uno Dos Tacos. Look no further if you’re craving great, old fashioned and authentic Mexican food to spice up lunchtime in your office this week.

Uno Dos Tacos‘ philosophy is simple: keep it fun and make it fresh. What sets them apart from every other taco restaurant is that they make all of their tortillas with fresh maize (brought in daily from Oakland’s La Finca Tortilleria) rolled out individually and cooked on a real Mexican grill. Salsa? Made in house. Carnitas? Made in house. You get the picture.

Uno Dos Tacos is the latest eatery from the people behind Super Duper and numerous other SF mainstays. Their delicious Mexican cuisine is brought to life by Guadalajara native, Luis Flores. Luis’ focus is on real Mexican food made by hand, from scratch – lovingly crafted and deeply personal; he draws influence from his large family kitchen back in Mexico.

So what can you expect? Five different meat options:

Asada, carnitas, pescado, tinga(chicken) and lengua – available in either a burrito, taco, lunch plate or salad. All are rounded off perfectly with chef-made tortillas and one of the five house salsas, each made daily and specially paired to spark the flavor of each dish.

Uno Dos Tacos should certainly not be missed by the vegetarians or Gluten Free amongst us; their vegetarian options are quite simply delicious and their lunch plates are fresh, satisfying and flavorful.

To order from Uno Dos Tacos, login to Good Lunch today or call/email us and we’ll do it all for you.

A Tropical Food Trifecta

Dear Good Lunchers,

We know how difficult it can be to find new, healthy affordable lunches in the FiDi, and how options nearby can become limited. Eating should never boil down to routine habit but, instead, should be about constant adventuring and trying new foods, right?

This week’s tip is all about the South Pacific. Bamboo Asia is a small, made-to-order restaurant that’s starting to buzz. It’s simple: they’ve taken the classic flavors of India, Japan, and Vietnam, and put them onto three mini-menus all tied together by a customization of gluten-free wraps, bowls, sushi, and salads. Just check out their yummy list of choices! There are so many spicy and veggie options to try, all for under ten bucks, we guarantee you won’t get bored of this spot any time soon.

Started by a co-founder of HackCancer, a network of young philanthropic entrepreneurs and health-tech workers that connects people to local charities, Bamboo Asia is definitely a part of the family! It’s a perfect quick-casual insertion of tasty health-conscious food into the hectic frenzy of San Francisco’s crowded lunchscape. They’re open for dinner, and cater, too. Apparently, a breakfast menu and Happy Hour cocktails with Asian style tapas are on the horizon!

Drop us an email or call or text us at 415-294-1186, and we will take care of everything. Or, just login to Good Lunch today and place an order there. It’s super easy!
